Common questions about business valuations

How are businesses typically valued?

Most business valuations start with a multiple of adjusted earnings (EBITDA). This takes your annual profit, strips out non-operational costs, and applies a multiplier based on your sector, size, and market conditions.

What factors affect value?

The biggest drivers are profitability, revenue trend, and buyer demand. Businesses that are growing and have a management team in place will typically attract higher multiples.

Why is the valuation a range?

The final sale price depends on preparation, marketing, and buyer competition. A range gives you a realistic picture of what is achievable rather than a single figure that may prove misleading.

How accurate is an online valuation?

An online calculator provides an informed starting point. A more precise valuation requires a confidential conversation. Get in touch to discuss your business.

Business valuation by sector

Every sector is different. The factors that drive value in a care home are not the same as those in a language school or a fire safety consultancy. Select your sector below for a more tailored view.
